Elevators can be divided into traction driven elevators and forced drive elevators according to their driving mechanisms. Elevators that rely on the frictional force of the main engine's driving wheel rope groove to drive the lifting rope are called traction driven elevators; Elevators that are non friction driven and suspended by chains or wire ropes are called forced drive elevators (including drum drives).
